CampCrew ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") is a collaborative camping trip log, photo journal, and basecamp planning platform designed for private family groups and camping crews. This Privacy Policy details the exact types of information we collect, how we process and store it, the third-party infrastructure we utilize, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide real-time family camping logs, trip organization, and group media sharing:
- Account Information: Google Sign-In is our exclusive authentication provider. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and Google account profile avatar URL. We never receive, process, or store passwords.
- Home Base Address (Private): You may optionally provide a home address to calculate driving distances and filter campgrounds near your home base. Your home address is private to your user profile and is never visible to your crew members or any other user.
- Camping Trip Logs & Basecamp Data: Campground names, stay dates, site numbers, nightly rates, overall star ratings, site-specific scores (shade, levelness, privacy), hookups, amenities, pet rules, cell reception ratings, companion lists, and trip notes.
- Family Forum & Wishlist Ideas: Campground wishlist proposals, discussion topics, community voting tallies, and nested conversation threads created within your designated crew.
- Itemized Trip Expenses & Settlements: Custom expense line items (groceries, firewood, park permits, fuel, activities), payer attribution, member cost splits, and settlement balance matrices.
- Photos & Media: Campsite photos, rig setups, and trail maps you explicitly select and upload. Photos are compressed client-side before cloud transmission.
- Photo Comments & Emoji Reactions: Emoji reactions (❤️, 🔥, 🌲, ⛺, 😂, 👍) and discussion notes attached to shared trip photos.
- Crew Metadata: Group names, member roles (Owner, Admin, Member, Viewer), and randomly generated 8-character invite codes.
- Pre-Launch Waitlist & Beta Channel Inquiries: When you voluntarily submit a request on our pre-launch waitlist, we collect your email address, optional first name, and preferred camping style strictly to issue early access registration passes and notify you regarding closed beta cohorts (Google Play Closed Testing and Apple TestFlight).
2. Location Services & Mapping APIs
To help you locate campgrounds and autocomplete street addresses, CampCrew integrates the Google Places API (New), with OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) as a fallback geocoding service.
Third-Party Mapping Disclosure: When you search for a campground or type an address into the autocomplete search bar, your query is transmitted to Google Places API (New) in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy and Google Maps Platform Terms of Service. We do not track your real-time background GPS location.
3. Payment Processing & Billing
CampCrew offers optional storage tier upgrades (Basecamp Free, Explorer, Trailblazer) and custom print-on-demand keepsakes (CampCrew Shop):
- Web Application: All storage tier subscription payments, billing upgrades, customer portal management, and shop orders are processed securely via Stripe.
- Android Mobile App: In-app digital storage tier upgrades are billed through Google Play In-App Billing. Purchases of physical goods from the CampCrew Shop are processed securely via Stripe.
Zero Payment Card Storage: CampCrew servers never receive, store, or process raw credit card numbers, CVVs, or banking credentials. All payment data is handled directly by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1 certified) or Google Play.
4. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used strictly to power the core features of CampCrew:
- Authenticating your account and verifying crew membership permissions.
- Synchronizing trip logs, photos, forum topics, packing lists, and expenses across your family's devices.
- Calculating driving distances from your private home base.
- Fulfilling custom merchandise orders placed through the CampCrew Shop.
We do NOT sell, rent, or monetize your personal data. We do NOT run third-party advertising networks or tracking pixels.
5. How Your Information Is Shared
- Within Your Private Crew: Trip logs, campground reviews, photo galleries, comments, expenses, and wishlist ideas are strictly private and accessible only to approved members of your designated Crew. Uploaded photos are never published publicly on the web.
- Cloud Infrastructure Providers:
- Google Firebase: User authentication (Firebase Auth) and real-time database storage (Cloud Firestore). Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare: Cloudflare R2 object storage and Cloudflare Workers proxy for token-authorized media delivery.
- Printful: Shipping address information is transmitted strictly when you order custom physical merchandise for fulfillment and delivery.
6. Data Retention, Storage & Erasure
Your data is cached locally on your device for offline access and synced to secure cloud databases when connected to the internet.
- Right to Erasure & Deletions: When you delete a trip log, photo, forum idea, or expense in the app, purge commands are immediately sent to remove the records from local storage, Firestore, and Cloudflare R2 media buckets.
- Storage Retention on Downgrade: If a crew on a paid tier downgrades to the free tier and exceeds storage limits, we provide a 90-day grace period with in-app notifications. If the crew remains over the limit after 90 days, the oldest photos are pruned first until the storage footprint matches the free tier. We never perform a total wipe.
7. Children's Privacy
CampCrew is designed for family camping trips. Minor family members may participate as crew members under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian who manages the crew account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children independently of a parent/guardian creating and managing crew access.
8. Your Choices & Account Deletion
You can edit or delete your trip logs, campsite reviews, photos, and camper profile at any time directly in the app. You can also delete your account entirely from the Settings screen in the mobile or web app, which permanently detaches your profile and cleanses personal identifiers. For data export requests (.zip backup), Crew Owners can download their crew data from the Crew tab or contact support.
