CampCrew ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") is a collaborative camping trip log, photo journal, and basecamp planning platform designed for private family groups and camping crews. View Standalone Privacy Policy Page →

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: Google Sign-In is our exclusive authentication provider. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo URL. We never receive, process, or store passwords.

Content You Provide:

  • Home Address (Private): Used as your own starting point to calculate distances and filter campgrounds near your home base. Your home address is personal to your profile and is never visible to your crew members or anyone else.
  • Camping Trip Details: Campground name, state, location/GPS coordinates, stay dates, site numbers, nightly rates, star ratings, site amenity selections (hookups, fire pit, pet policies, cell reception, wifi, etc.), companion lists, and personal trip notes.
  • Family Forum & Wishlist Ideas: Campground wishlist proposals, discussion topics, community voting tallies, and nested conversation threads created within your designated crew.
  • Itemized Trip Expenses & Settlements: Custom expense line items (groceries, firewood, permits, fuel, activities), payer attribution, member cost splits, and settlement balance matrices.
  • Photos & Media: Camera and photo gallery selections for campsite photos, rig setups, and park trail maps. Uploads flow through client-side compression before cloud storage.
  • Photo Comments & Emoji Reactions: Emoji reactions (❤️, 🔥, 🌲, ⛺, 😂, 👍) and discussion notes attached to shared trip photos.
  • Crew Name & Invite Codes: Custom crew group display names and generated 8-character invite codes.

Automatically Collected Information: App sync metadata necessary to synchronize your crew's shared trip database across authorized family devices.

2. Location Services & Mapping APIs

CampCrew integrates the Google Places API (New) (with OpenStreetMap / Nominatim as a fallback) to provide campground lookup and address autocompletion. Search queries are processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

3. Payment Processing & Billing

On the web platform, all storage tier subscriptions, customer portal management, and physical merchandise orders (CampCrew Shop) are processed securely through Stripe. Within the Android mobile app, digital subscriptions are processed via Google Play In-App Billing, while physical merchandise is handled via Stripe. CampCrew servers never store or process raw credit card numbers or banking data.

4. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to operate the App's core features: authenticating your user account, syncing your trip logs and photos across your crew's devices, calculating distances, and letting approved crew members view shared trip history. We do NOT sell your data or display advertisements.

5. How Your Information Is Shared

  • Within Your Crew: Trip logs, campsite notes, photos, forum topics, expenses, and crew member profiles are strictly private and accessible only to approved members of your designated Crew. Uploaded photos are never exposed to the public web without explicit crew authentication.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Data is synchronized using Google Firebase (Authentication & Firestore Database) and Cloudflare R2 object storage for secure, token-authorized media access. Cloud data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Cloudflare terms.
  • We do not share your information with any other third parties.

6. Data Storage, Security & Erasure

Your data is cached locally on your device for fast offline access and synced to secure cloud storage when online.

Right to Erasure & Deletions: When you delete a photo, remove a trip log, or delete your user account within the App, CampCrew automatically issues purge requests to permanently remove the media and records from both local cache and cloud storage buckets.

Retention Policy for Storage Above the Free Tier: Photos and media within your crew's free storage allowance are never deleted on our initiative — only you and your crew ever delete your own content. If a crew that was on a paid storage tier is downgraded or a subscription payment lapses, and the crew's stored media is above the free tier's limits, we provide a 90-day grace period with an in-app warning before any automatic removal. If the crew is still over the free tier's limits when that period ends, we remove the oldest photos first — only the amount needed to fit back within the free tier — never a full wipe, and never without that advance warning.

7. Children's Privacy

CampCrew is designed for family outdoor trips and may be used by family members under parent or guardian supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children independently of a parent/guardian managing crew access.

8. Your Choices

You can edit or delete your trip logs, photos, campsite reviews, and camper profile at any time. Crew Owners and Admins can download the crew's photos and trip log as a .zip from the Crew tab. For account removal, use the delete-account option in the Settings tab, or contact our support team below.

1. Description of Service

CampCrew is a family camping log and basecamp coordination platform designed to help private groups (or "crews") store, sync, and share camping trip logs, campsite photos, packing lists, site amenities, itemized expense splits, and wishlist discussion boards.

2. User Accounts & Security

To access real-time sync and cloud features, you sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account credentials and for all activities conducted under your account.

3. User-Generated Content & Ownership

You retain full ownership of all trip records, notes, forum topics, expense entries, and photos you upload to CampCrew. By uploading content:

  • You grant CampCrew a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, format, and display your uploaded content solely for transmitting and rendering it to authorized members of your designated Crew.
  • You represent and warrant that you own or possess necessary rights to upload the content, and that it does not infringe upon any third-party copyright or privacy rights.

4. Administrative Access & Content Safety

We reserve the right (but do not assume the obligation) to review or permanently delete any content that violates safety guidelines, contains illegal or harmful material, or infringes on copyrights. Accounts that repeatedly violate terms may be suspended.

5. Subscriptions, Storage Tiers & Billing

CampCrew offers Basecamp Free and paid subscription tiers (Explorer, Trailblazer) that increase photo capacity and advanced features. On the web, subscriptions and billing updates are managed via Stripe. Within the Android app, digital subscriptions are processed via Google Play In-App Billing. If a crew downgrades, a 90-day grace period applies before excess oldest photos are pruned back to free tier allowances.

6. CampCrew Shop & Physical Goods

Physical merchandise ordered through the CampCrew Shop is printed on demand by fulfillment partners (e.g. Printful) and billed through Stripe across both web and mobile apps. Defective or damaged items will be replaced or refunded within 30 days of receipt.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to upload harmful or malicious content, attempt unauthorized database or API access, or interfere with system services.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

CampCrew is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, CampCrew shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of the service.

Security Policy & Architecture

1. Authentication & Zero Passwords

CampCrew delegates all user identity management to Google OAuth 2.0 and Firebase Auth. We do not store passwords, eliminating credential theft attack vectors. Every cloud request validates cryptographically signed JWT tokens.

2. Granular Database Isolation

Cloud Firestore data access is governed by comprehensive, server-enforced Security Rules. Trip logs, photos, forum topics, and expenses under a crew are accessible strictly to active, verified members of that specific group.

3. Private Media Storage (Cloudflare R2)

Campsite photos and trail maps are stored in private Cloudflare R2 object storage buckets. Client uploads are authorized via short-lived, single-use presigned URLs minted by an authenticated Cloudflare Worker. Direct public bucket access is prohibited.

4. Payment Security & Zero Card Data

CampCrew servers never receive or store credit card numbers. Web transactions and shop purchases are handled directly by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant), and Android in-app subscriptions are managed via Google Play Billing.

5. Transport Encryption

All network traffic between client applications, edge workers, and database backends is strictly encrypted with TLS 1.3 / HTTPS.
